Keep your knees healthy and beautiful

They say it's your hands and neck that give away your age.
But did you know there's another body part that give away your real age?
It's your knees and elbows. And somehow we keep forgetting to take care of them.

No matter how long you have been ignoring your knees (elbows), there are a few steps you can take to soften your skin and get rid of dry skin and dark patches.
It’s important to regularly care for the knees and also your elbows by exfoliating and moisturizing them.

Dark elbows and knees are caused by lack of exfoliation, too much sun exposure, dry skin and wearing clothes that rub against the elbow, kneeling, etc.

1.) Cut a large lemon in half.
Rub each lemon half on your knees (elbows) and cover it with plastic wrap.
Keep cleansed area away from the sunlight by staying indoors.
You can rub away the pulp, but do not wash your knees (elbows) for about 2 hours.
Moisturize the area with rich moisturiser and you should see a significant difference.
Repeat this everyday until the dark spots are eliminated.
If you don't have lemon in your kitchen, then look for yogurt or milk.
Both ingredients work well as natural skin lightener and they also add moisture to your dry, rough
     skin.

2.) Apply coconut oil and massage the dark knees (elbows) with it for 5-8 minutes and then wash it.
You can also mix coconut oil with few drops of lemon juice and apply to get whiter skin.

3.) Use Bio-Oil. It is a specialist skincare oil for the face and body, specifically formulated to help
reduce the appearance of scars, wrinkles, stretch marks, aging skin and uneven skin tone.
It should be massaged in a circular motion into the scar and surrounding skin, twice daily, for a
     minimum of 3 months.

4.) You can also use anti-wrinkle cream, if you think they are becoming a bit saggy, or too dry.

5.) During the day when you experience dry skin, use an olive oil. Make sure the area is
nicely moisturize, cover it with a plastic wrap for 30 minutes and then remove.
Using olive oil as a moisturizer is fantastic, it last all day and does wonders for the skin.

6.) Use a body exfoliating cream in the shower and scrub away dry areas (be careful not
to make them sore) and then apply a rich moisturiser. This is best done in the evening, put a lot of
     cream afterwards.
Don’t overdo it with scrubing. It will create an even bigger problem. If you scrub too much, it will
make your skin raw and yes, it will cause it to darken. Exfoliate gently.

7.) Exercise, working out helps to develop shapely and toned legs.
Try a Pilates DVD. The great thing about Pilates DVD is that you can do it anytime you want in
the privacy of your home. Do the exercises at least 2-3 times per week. Pilates works on toning
your entire body and will improve your flexibility. Pilates also improves your posture.

Perfect legs do come in all shapes and proportions. The important part is that you take care of your body to the best of your ability. There are no quick fixes for getting perfect legs.
Be patient!

  7. I really never thought about my knees as a part separate from my legs as a whole... but you're right, they should be cared for because they ultimately show age a bit too well.

  12. These are useful tips. you cover all aspects of keeping the knees and elbows looking great. Personally, I agree with you about coconut oil. It does wonders for my skin.

I cook with it as well so I get the benefits from the inside out. It is good for lowering cholesterol and helping me keep a healthy weight. As you mentioned, it is good for the skin. It softens the skin and smooths it.
